Ambrosia Fruit salad- A retro summer dessert

I had this on my other blog, but it is oh so good I had to add it to this one!

My husband would always mention this fruit salad his step-dad used to make on the 4th of July every year...but he couldn't put his finger on what it contained....so we searched the internet and found it HERE

He was so sure this was the recipe! So we ran to the super market and got all the ingredients..and long to be hold it was it! HURRAY! I have never tasted it before, and when I did I was hooked.
It is the perfect dessert for the summer, especially on those hot days.

I of course used my Butterprint 4 qt pyrex mixing bowl =)

NOTE: I used DelMonte fruit cocktail & Pineapple chunks, also used Kraft mini marshmallows!

  1. My Grandma has been making this salad since what I imagine is the dawn of time. : ) Every year for Christmas, Thanksgiving and misc. BBQ's we have this salad. Sometimes she gets a little nutty and adds coconut. No pun intended!

    1. Oh how cool is that!! This recipe must be an old one. My husband LOVES it, and I also love it too. It is so refreshing. That is nice that your grandma makes it! A nice tradition =)

Coconut? hmm....I wonder if that would taste good with it?

    2. It's ok. I'm not a huge fan of coconut, but she gets all weird if we don't eat the salad, so I'll eat it with coconut for her.

Haha! Too funny, Melissa. You're a good granddaughter!

My grandma made this too, using canned fruit cocktail, bananas, mandarin oranges, and coconut (I love coconut!).

    1. Dave, this must have been a popular recipe back then. I have never had it till about a month ago! My husband loves it! Bananas, and mandarin oranges sounds good...I might have to add the coconut because it seems like it may be a good combo!
